
Janice Dulak is a Romana's Pilates® Master Instructor Trainer with an international reputation, and an avid dressage rider and author of books and DVDs about Pilates and equitation. A revered Pilates Teacher of Teachers, she is sought after for her clear and concise distillation of the Pilates Method. Her training began two decades ago with the heir to the Pilates Method, Romana Kryzanowska. Today, her work continues through instruction at the Dulak Pilates Center in Champaign, Illinois and through Ridermanship®, her school for Pilates for Dressage® which empowers riders to effectively communicate with their horse through body control.
After a receiving a dance degree from SUNY Brockport, Janice began a successful career as a dancer that led her to teach and perform around the world. Her career led her to Romana Kryzanowska in 1989, where she began her Pilates training in New York. She was certified to teach in 1993 and opened her first studio in Columbia, Missouri. At the request of Romana, she became a Master Instructor Trainer in 2001. Today she resides in Champaign, Illinois and her studio, the Dulak Pilates Center, reflects the Pilates lineage from Joseph Pilates himself, to Romana, directly to Janice. Her work and studio are dedicated to the teachings of Joseph Pilates and in deepening the understanding of the method in both mind and body.
As a rider, Janice has been able to effectively transfer her knowledge of dance, Pilates and body control to the art of dressage. Her expertise led her to create Pilates for Dressage® through which she teaches riders around the around the globe the importance of a strong core and the energetic flow required to progress in dressage. Her Ridermanship® Training Program and clinics offer riders the opportunity to experience her expert instruction in person. While Janice would say she does not teach riding, per se, she will state that she teaches people how to ride. Her recent travels included a trip to the UK in June 2012 to co-teach with Linda Parelli, of The Parelli Method of Natural Horsemanship, and in August of 2012 she continued her yearly work with USDF Gold Medalist and Certified Instructor, Sarah Martin in Blanca, Colorado.
Janice is author to the book Pilates for the Dressage Rider, published by Trafalgar Square books, which has also released Janice’s two companion DVDs, designed to help all riders understand and follow her Ridermanship® training program. Her reputation recently earned her an invitation to contribute to the March/April 2012 issue of Pilates Style magazine, and her newest DVD, Nine Pilates Essentials for the Balanced Rider: A Magic Circle Workout was released by Trafalgar in August 2012. Most recently, she has been invited to contribute to USDF Connection, the magazine of the United Stated Dressage Federation. Her article Organize Your Upper Body: 2 Easy Pilates-Based Exercises for Better Riding is a feature in the September 2012 edition.
