Frequently Asked Questions

What can Pilates do for me?

Pilates can give you the movement experience of a dancer!  Who doesn’t want to move like that? It will keep you strong and flexible and teach you to move with a total sense of the body.

Why is Pilates better than working out in a gym?

A gym work out is great, but it doesn’t teach integration of the body.  For example at DPC we can teach you to feel that you can lift your arms from your back, and by doing so ease pain in the shoulder! The understanding of the integration of the body from the Pilates Powerhouse is what makes Pilates so applicable to all activities and physical conditions.

Is all Pilates the same?

No, in fact, not all Pilates is the same. In his lifetime, Joseph Pilates taught a lot of people who have since carried on his work. However, Romana Kryzanowska is the only one who stayed by his side in the New York studio until he died in the 1960’s. Joe left all his writings and research records to Romana. To me that suggests that, although all Pilates is good for you, the original teachings lie in those who are certified through Romana.

Testimonials

“Before Pilates my back was a sea of pain, with weak muscles and noticeable atrophy. I have gained so much strength, muscle shape and tone that now I have returned to my favorite sport of running—something I had to give up six years ago. Back pain is all but gone, too!”

    – Dorothy L.

“You are serious about what you do, but bring such a joy of discovery to your work that, that is what really shines through.”

    – Lisa Libman

Noël Chase / Senior Instructor Trainer

Noël Chase found Pilates (or rather Pilates found her) in 1998 while living in Columbia, MO.  Soon after becoming a guinea pig for an apprentice at In Line Studio, Noël realized that the method helped her in all her other athletic endeavors (mountain biking, ultimate, trail running). She became a student of Janice Dulak, and under her guidance and teaching, became a Certified Instructor in 2001. In 2005, Noël became a Level 4 Instructor and in 2008, a Level 3 Romana’s Pilates Senior Instructor Trainer. She has had the great fortune of working with her mentor and teacher Janice and continues to learn and deepen her understanding of Joseph Pilates ‘Contrology’.

“It takes a village!”Along the way, Noël continues to learn from others: Romana Kryzanowska, Sari Mejia Santo, Juanita Lopez, Cynthia Lochard, Lori Coleman-Brown, Anthony Rabara, ChaCha Guerro, Roxane Richards-Huang, Marjorie Oron, Michael Rooks.  The devoted clients of Dulak Pilates Center continue to inspire, challenge and gratify.

Diane Musumeci / Instructor

An educator for over thirty years, Diane Musumeci brings her lifelong passion for teaching to Pilates. She also brings her personal story of a non-athletic adult who, through Pilates, gained the physical and mental confidence to complete two marathons, skydive, and downhill ski. She is committed to ensuring that her clients discover the most effective way to reach their fitness goals, whatever they may be, through the authentic program developed by Joseph Pilates and transmitted through his star pupil, Romana Krysanowska, directly to Diane's mentor, Janice Dulak.

Certified in June of 2011, Diane is excited to work with clients of all ages, sizes, and fitness levels. She is especially interested in helping mature adults achieve the physical confidence that comes from the Pilates emphasis on strength, stretch, and control.
